Loud will have its own space one day. Before we build a space, we want to fully understand the needs of the folks in our community. Until then, we’re really interested in the power of activating community spaces. Having a residency simply means Loud has a temporary home within a community space that already exists. In this exploration, we’ll align with partners we admire and whose values align with ours. The residency does a couple of things: 1) it gives our members a consistent place to gather in a central and accessible location and 2) in line with Loud’s purpose, a residency in a community space provides our members a special opportunity to engage with orgs doing important work and serve local communities.

To test-run our first-ever residency, we’re partnering with Self Help Graphics. Loud Community will be housed in their Boyle Heights space June - December 2019.

Self Help Graphics & Art fosters the creation and advancement of new art works by Chicana/o and Latinx artists through experimental and innovative printmaking techniques and other visual art forms. We are an organization rooted in community; and since 1973, have been at the intersection of arts and social justice, providing a home that fosters the creativity and development of local artists. We establish international collaborations and partnerships nation-wide and create world-wide cultural exchanges.
